English Drama Fest 2017 (Organized by the Association of English Medium Secondary Schools) BackWho’s The Best Pokémon Trainer in the Land?
Play Synopsis
Sam Sung and Apple are two teens vying for the coveted prize of “Best Pokémon Trainer” at their secondary school’s Annual Pokémon GO Game Competition. Apple is as sweet as pie, but Sam has a black heart and an evil competitive streak in her. Sam’s witchery sends Apple into a world she never imagined and she needs to find a way to escape. Who will save Apple? Will it be her Pokémon friends? Her good friend, Peter Clark (PC)? Or…? Who will win in the end? Watch and find out as Apple and Sam go head-to-head in this mobile game thriller.
On Wed 26 April, the English Drama Club performed the play, “Who’s The Best Pokémon Trainer In the Land?” They had been working on the script since October with drama rehearsals every Monday after school. The play was originally devised by NET teacher, Ms Gyokery, and then adapted and enhanced by the Drama members who added their own ideas to the mix. It was a long, but fun 5 months. We had a lot of form 1s in the play, which is a good indication that students are interested in drama.
We entered the EMI Drama Fest so we were up against some tough competition. In the end, our play was definitely the “crowd pleaser” but we lost out to a serious play about North Korea. We did walk away with one TEAM AWARD for OUTSTANDING CREATIVITY as well as two OUTSTANDING PERFORMER awards for our Narrators (and rappers), Richard (Chan Kwan Yui) and Edward (Chan Long Him) both of 1E class.
