Music and Dance Night serves as a platform for showcasing the musical and dance talents of our students, featuring choir, orchestral and dance performances.
This year’s rendition of the Annual BHJS Music and Dance Night marked a successful and fruitful end for our performance arts teams. More than 200 students from our Dance Team, School Choir and School Orchestra took part in the rehearsals, and preparation work as well as in the much-anticipated concert. Similar to previous years, the concert featured numerous members of the choirs and orchestras, which played a broad and colourful repertoire. Pieces ranging from local composer Dr. Steve Ho’s “In One Accord” to “Eric Whitacre’s Alleluia” were sung, showcasing the musical talent and skills of different choirs. Members of the Dance Team also gave their best performance with their duo, trio and group dances.
Apart from the traditional Music and Dance Night Performances, new elements were also added to this year’s program. Guest musicians from Wa Ying College’s Wind Band, Joint-School Orchestra and Choir also entertained us during the finale along with a new feature - a four-movement excerpt of Prokofiev’s cantata from Alexander Nevsky. This brought the concert to an exciting and thrilling end.

On the night of 15th July 2017, the grand celebration of our school’s 55th anniversary came to a rousing conclusion with a dazzling display of light, sound and colour – a large-scale musical production of the well known musical “The Sound of Music” by Richard Rodgers, Oscar Hammerstein II, Howard Lindsay and Russel Crouse. A combined effort of over 100 students and teachers created a lively theatrical treat with elements of playfulness, adversity, faith and love.
“In union, there is strength.”
Completely new to the world of large-scale musicals, our teachers found the music arrangement and stage management work fun and challenging. They also had strong determination and belief in our students’ ability in tackling the problems they faced.
Mr. Alston Ng
"It is possibly one of the biggest achievements of my life up till now. Knowing that musicals consist of drama performance as well as orchestral accompaniment, coherence between the two and the cooperation among all parties was crucial. Different parties trying their best to work things out with mutual trust and understanding was not as easy a task as it may sound. There were times when things didn’t go very well, however, it was a lesson for me to learn. It was a blessing that all parties were able to work as a team and deliver an extraordinary musical. It gave me great confidence and encouragement for my future endeavours. "

English Drama Team
The English Drama Team is made up of students who love drama and want to improve their English-speaking skills. It is also a great place to meet new friends and have fun! In year 2017-18, the English Drama Team won 2 awards at the EMI Drama Fest: Outstanding Creativity in the Use of Costumes and Props and Form 3E student, Nancy Fan, won an Outstanding Performer award. Students come together once a week to learn acting skills taught by our NET teacher, Ms. Lisa Gyokery, as well as writing and performing an English script.
