Our Form 5 students LAM KA CHUN and KWOK HO CHING have achieved remarkable success at the ASTRON Space Lab Competition. The prize ceremony was held at HKU lately. They applied their ICT programming knowledge to calculate the average velocity of International Space Station (ISS). They received two honours: 2nd Runner-up and the ASTRON Experiment Idea Award.
Their award-winning project calculated the linear speed of the International Space Station (ISS) by using a Raspberry Pi's gyroscope and accelerometer to measure its three-dimensional angular velocity and acceleration. By processing the net values of these sensor readings multiple times and taking the average value, the team successfully applied the principles of uniform circular motion to compute the station's average linear speed.
