For 65 years, generations of Jubileans have grown, served and found a sense of belonging at Bishop Hall Jubilee School. On 23 October 2026, this shared story brought guests, alumni, parents, teachers and students together in Helen Wong Hall for our 65th Anniversary Thanksgiving Service. Under the theme “Tell Out, My Soul”, the school community gave thanks for God’s enduring faithfulness and the many lives that have shaped our school.
The service was officiated by The Very Revd Franklin Lee, Dean of Holy Trinity Cathedral and our School Chaplain, with The Rt Revd Dr Timothy Chi-Pei Kwok delivering the sermon and benediction. Through Scripture readings, prayers and the choir’s anthem, the congregation reflected on God’s blessings and renewed their sense of purpose in an atmosphere of reverence and warmth. The readings reminded us that we do not live for ourselves alone, and that caring for those in need is a response to God’s love.
A particularly meaningful part of the service brought together the voices of three generations. The Revd Mary Au Yuk Kwan, a member of our first graduating class in 1965, and Professor Edwin Chan Ho Yin, a graduate of 1990, returned to share their gratitude. They were joined by Bori Zheng of Class 6D, who had served as both Vice-Chairperson and Chairperson of the Christian Union. Across the years separating their school days, their presence spoke of a bond with BHJS that continues beyond the classroom.
The “Thankful Inheritance” candle-passing ceremony offered a moving expression of faith shared across generations. Our Assistant Chaplain and alumnus, Mr Gary Tang, passed the light to the outgoing Christian Union leaders, who then entrusted it to the incoming leadership and new committee. Each light symbolised both the blessings we have received and our calling to share Christ’s love through service. The choir then sang “Tell Out, My Soul” as participants held their candles alight, expressing gratitude for God’s faithfulness and hope for the generations to come.
Gratitude also took a tangible form in the handmade illuminated crosses presented to the officiating party. Created by Christian Union teachers and students, their design was inspired by the windows of our school chapel. Each gift carried something of our spiritual home and the care of those who made it.
Following the service, guests attended the Inno Lab Opening Ceremony, marking a new chapter in the school’s development. As BHJS looks ahead, may our thanksgiving continue through lives of faith, compassion and service—passing on the light we have received.
