BHJS Distinguished Alumni Made Outstanding Contribution To The Medical Profession (RTHK)

BHJS graduates Prof. Edwin Chan and Dr. Judy Ho best exemplifies the core values of the school motto: ‘I was not born to myself alone’ through outstanding contribution to the advancement of medical science and unselfish desire to help people living in third world countries. They were invited to live interviews with RTHK on 8th and 20th January respectively to share their careers and accomplishments.

Prof. Edwin Chan of CUHK's School of Life Sciences is an expert in genetic medicine, who has identified a specific gene that causes one version of spinocerebellar ataxia, or SCA. His breakthrough findings have been published in the Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences of the United States of America. In the interview, he talks about how he uses fruit flies to model different human neurodegenerative diseases, which plays an important role in the quest to develop cures.

Dr. Judy Ho is a colorectal surgeon working at the Department of Surgery of Queen Mary Hospital. She went on a short-term mission trip to Africa to provide medical help to patients suffering from all sorts of diseases and train healthcare workers to become surgeons who can meet the surgical need in the country. She shares her amazing trip full of unexpected obstacles that led to many wonderful opportunities to serve others on mission with God.
