BHJS Community Theatre: "Sham Shui Po's Treasure" Woven from History Warms Hearts
2026-07-17

The Interact Club of our school, together with the Chinese Drama Team, was deeply honoured to collaborate with the Hong Kong Women’s Association to present the official performance of our original community theatre production, "Sham Shui Po's Treasure", at the Jockey Club Lai Kok Centre on 15th July.

From Dialogue to Stage: A Heartfelt Intergenerational Conversation
This project represents a whole month of dedication from our students. Back on 22nd June, students visited the centre to chat with local elders, drawing creative inspiration directly from their oral histories as the foundation of the script. Every scene and line in the play originates from the real-life snippets and precious memories of our neighborhood residents. After nearly a month of rehearsals and intensive preparation, they officially took the stage on 15th July.

This marks the third community history theatre production by the BHJS team, following "The Walled Debt of Kowloon" in Kowloon City and "Brewing in Tai Po" in Tai Po. "Sham Shui Po's Treasure" centres on the community's evolution from the demolition of the Li Cheng Uk Resettlement Area to the completion of Lai Kok Estate. The nostalgic neighborhood ties portrayed on stage resonated deeply with the elderly audience, drawing enthusiastic responses!

Warmth in Gift Bags: Delivering Daily Essentials
Following the performance, students hosted a joyful interactive quiz and personally distributed care gift bags containing essential daily supplies (including white rice, pain-relief patches, soy sauce, and red dates), bringing practical warmth to the elderly.

Special Acknowledgements
We would like to express our deepest gratitude to the Rotary Club of Kowloon West and The Hong Kong Federation of Youth Groups for their generous sponsorship, making this warmth and care possible. Our heartfelt thanks also go to the Hong Kong Women’s Association for their venue support and coordination, which beautifully enabled this intergenerational dialogue.
